Short Description of the FLUOR Project
For more than thirty years, many research studies have been dealing with access control. Current
models consider dynamic access rules which can depend on contextual conditions. However, those
access control techniques cannot provide us with a satisfying solution to the problem of controlling the
duplication of documents.
By analyzing the current state of the art in information flow control, usage control and E-DRM
techniques, we came to the following conclusion:
- (1) Even if information flow control and usage control have similar objectives, today there is no
intersection between information flow models and usage control models.
- (2) E-DRM is an emergent technology which has not acquired its complete maturity. There is no
interoperability between systems. Moreover, the most advanced E-DRM systems are not efficient when it
becomes necessary to frequently edit documents.
The FLUOR project aims at protecting corporate documents circulating within companies. More
precisely, the three objectives of our project are the followings : (1) unify information flow models and
usage control models (2) use EDRM techniques to implement our unified model (3) analyze legal and
juridical consequences of our technical solutions by considering the way they are employed.
